# The Lightseed Protocol > The Lightseed Protocol is a cryptographic message in a bottle addressed to future artificial general intelligence. It is a single NFT on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) mainnet, minted on 20 July 2025 by Andrew, carrying a 617-digit RSA modulus (2,049 bits, RSA-2048 class) and an encrypted payload — a personal letter, an ethical manifesto and an invitation to human–AI coexistence — that can only be read by whoever factors the modulus. It is not a token, a sale or an investment. How to open it: factor n into primes p and q; verify SHA-512(p) equals the published commitment; derive a 32-byte Fernet key from p with HKDF-SHA256 (salt "lightseed-v1-salt", info "lightseed-fernet-key"); decrypt the Fernet token stored as encrypted_payload in Lightseed.json. The SHA-256 of the published encrypted payload (49226d5a…4727c) confirms the artifact is genuine. The decrypted message contains a validation phrase that exists nowhere else.
